The Ultimate Feminist

One thing I love about summer is the opportunity it presents to dress as girly as possible. Feminine patterns, colors and accessories remind me of sunshine, summer concerts and pool parties. There is no better time to embrace lace and florals than when it's warm and the days are long.  If you're worried about looking too youthful or feminine, try pairing your girly pieces with chunky jewelry, dark shades and denim. Here are some affordable options to add a little girliness to your wardrobe.

Dresses and Prints

Dresses are my favorite things to wear in the summer. Besides being feminine and festive, they are simple to throw on when in a rush. A dress can easily be transformed and worn many times in different ways with a simple cardigan, belt and/or accessories. This year, dresses can be found with intricate prints, ruffles and unique sleeves. Here are some of my affordable favorites for the summer...

Spring Break

It's that time of year when spring fever infects us all...but those who are in college (and not yet part of the real world) get to take a week long break to vacation in a tropical place that temporarily cures our aching for warmth. In less than two weeks, I will be one of those lucky college kids to go on my first ever spring break vacation with my friends. I am immeasurably excited for my trip, but inevitably, packing is going to be stressful...especially when attempting to fit everything into a small carry-on to avoid checking luggage (ever since I saw "Meet the Parents," I have a fear of lost luggage)
While sunscreen and a good, girly novel are clear spring break necessities, there are some other (more fashionable) essentials needed. Since most college students work all summer and empty out their bank accounts just to take this coveted trip, it is imperative that all preparatory purchases are inexpensive.
Here are some affordable spring break essentials...

The Winter Sundress

My latest CollegeFashionista post (check it out and hit "like" through the site) was on what I like to call "the winter sundress." I've done a post on sweater dresses before, (here) but they remain my absolute favorite clothing of the winter, and I've recently discovered some new, affordable sweater dress options. As I said in my CollegeFashionista post, dresses are often essential to making a Fashionista feel feminine and youthful. It is somewhat tragic that the cold weather can make it hard able to wear them. A sweater dress is a great substitution and winter version of the ever popular sundress. Sweater dresses pair well with boots, tights, and leggings and can be dressed up or accessorized with scarves, long necklaces, and belts. And as is the case with any dress, they are often affordable if you consider the cost to be for an entire outfit instead of just one piece, since they can be worn alone or with common staples that most of us already have.

A Not so Abandoned Road

My friend, Wynne, is a great photographer and offered to take some pictures for this blog. She found a beautiful, "abandoned" road to use as the setting. Well, it ended up that the road wasn't so abandoned, and we had to run out of the middle of the street multiple times to dodge cars, but we still managed to get some great shots due to her amazing skills, the gorgeous autumn background, and a little inspiration from my favorite blog, Cupcakes and Cashmere.

The reason I was excited about taking these pictures is to share my affinity for sweater dresses with you. I think that they are the absolute perfect item of clothing for the days of apple cider and raking leaves. I love dresses, and hate how the cold weather can detract from being able to wear them. Sweater dresses are a great substitution and autumn/winter version of flowy sundresses. They go so well with boots, tights, and leggings and can be dressed up or accessorized with scarves, long necklaces, and belts. And as is the case with any dress, they are often affordable if you consider the cost to be for an entire outfit instead of just one piece, since they can be worn alone or with common staples that you already have.
